EMBRACE Program

The Indian Student Scholarship Fund

Embrace is a program developed by the Institute of Global Education to bring together adults from all over the world to “embrace” and provide education, food, decent clothing and healthcare for a small group of youth in India.  The Embrace mission is to help the youth improve their own lives and to train them to become global citizens.  Students from the Embrace program are provided the opportunity to become leaders in their communities and improve conditions for other children in rural areas around the globe.

Background

Embrace grew out of a values core curriculum developed, by world educators Dr. Richard Schneider and Ruth Schneider, for the Mucherla Global School located in a small village in South Central India. The curriculum was based on the World Core Curriculum developed by Dr. Robert Muller, former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and the first Chancellor of the UN University for Peace in Costa Rica.

Embrace was founded in 2005 to support the students who completed Mucherla Global School’s rigorous academic curriculum and are continuing on to college.  Ten years ago a program like Embrace, that helps children from a small, impoverished village attend college, was unthinkable.  The Institute embraced the belief it could be done and the students have excelled in their academic achievements.

Embrace Family

The Embrace family consists of people like you and me who believe in the power of dreaming big and that we can make a difference.  We know that ignorance is the breeding ground of intolerance, violence, high birth rates, poverty and disease.  We have the means to be part of a remarkable revolution in education that may provide the key to improving conditions in rural areas around the globe. We have the means to make a difference in a child’s life.  We invite you to join our Embrace family.  Together we can make Embrace a strong program that fulfills big dreams.

Program Administration

The program is sponsored by the Institute of Global Education, run by a Board of Directors located in the United States and Canada.  Dr. Richard Schneider, CEO, administers the program and travels to India several times a year to meet with the youth, set goals, and oversee the education model.  The annual financial needs of the program are $30,000.  This modest budget provides schooling for one year, along with clothing, medical and living costs, for over 16 students.

How to Join Embrace

Find out what it is like to be part of this program.  Give an Embrace family member a call (number below) to learn how personally rewarding and easy it is to make a difference in a child’s life.  We look forward to sharing with you the names, the faces and the dreams of our children.

Those who donate to the program will be issued a tax deductible receipt. Some Embrace family members prefer to sponsor a specific child.  We welcome individual sponsorship and work with you to develop a relationship with a child, if that is your wish.  Currently, it costs $1,600 to provide an annual sponsorship for a youth attending college.  This modest fee covers their cost of schooling, books, clothing, healthcare expenses and living costs for a whole year!   Some of our children may need only preventative healthcare while others might have medical needs that arise throughout the year.  Sponsorship money that is given for one child may be used for another child who needs serious medical care.  It is our goal to set up a separate medical fund. All donors receive Bi-Annual reports on the children that include their photos, bios, personal life goals and reports on how they are doing in college.

Any donation, small or big, is gratefully received!  For more information on the Embrace Program please contact Eleanor Kedney Schaffer, Program Coordinator, at 520-743-8214 or email her at eleanor4ige@yahoo.com.

The Institute for Global Education is a non-profit organization and we welcome any inquiries into our financial reports and costs to run the program.
